The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) facilitates and supports interdisciplinary, applied research that addresses critical social, behavioral, economic, and environmental problems primarily in Hawai'i and the Asia Pacific region. This is done through collaboration with faculty throughout the University of Hawai'i and with other educational and research institutions, regional and international organizations, the private sector, and federal, state, and county agencies. Also, as the sponsored research division of the College of Social Sciences, SSRI provides administrative support for pre-award and post-award activities related to extramural research and training grants and contracts in the College.

Aloha All,

I am pleased to announce the faculty recipients of the 2016-2017 Research Support Awards and the Undergraduate Research Support Awards . The review committee, chaired by Tom Giambelluca and staffed by Hanalei Abbott, recommended $92,302 in five Research Support awards, and $7,599 in two Undergraduate Research Support Awards. The funds are from overhead (indirect) funds generated by faculty in the College.

Please join me in congratulating these outstanding faculty researchers!

Best regards,
