New Fiscal Officer Joins SSRI

Jonalyn Ragonton began work at SSRI as a fiscal officer in July 2007, taking Nate Lee's place. She comes to us from the Botany department at UH Manoa. Prior to her employment at Botany, she worked at the Curriculum Research & Development Group in the College of Education as an administrative officer for three years. Jonalyn is a graduate of UH with a BBA in management.

One of the things that attracted her to this job was the opportunity to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible in different areas -- fiscal, personnel, grant development (pre-award) -- to better assist others in the college. Jonalyn says that one of the things that makes her job enjoyable is the people she works with. The faculty PIs have been helpful and very responsive, and the SSRI support staff have been patient and understanding in her transition to this job.

Her philosophy as a fiscal officer is to be pro-active and aware of potential problems and issues on a project or grant. Having sufficient lead time allows for better planning so problems can be addressed more effectively and efficiently. There are always different and unique situations but she tries to resolve problems in the best way possible, always keeping in mind how to best assist the PI and the department.

Jonalyn's hobbies and interests include sports, particularly basketball and football. She enjoys going to games with her family and friends, going to the beach, reading, poetry, and traveling to see new places and experience different cultures. One of the little known secrets about Jonalyn is that she was born and raised on the island of Molokai.

Next time you are in SSRI, please stop by to say hello to Jonalyn.
