Workshops & Seminars

"What is the difference between SSRI, ORS, and RCUH?" "What purchases are allowed on a grant?" "Do you need human subjects approval prior to submitting a grant?" These are some of the questions we hear frequently. CSS faculty members will have the opportunity to learn answers to these questions (and more) by attending one of two workshops for Fall 2006.

Orientation for New Faculty.

The first event was held on September 29, 2006. This informal "pauhana" orientation introduced new faculty to SSRI and the basic "ins and outs" of the grant application and grant administration process at UH. The orientation included an opportunity to meet and chat with our fiscal staff, and a brief overview of the "alphabet soup" of grant administration offices and units (e.g., SSRI, ORS, RCUH). We have found that this informal gathering also provides a welcome opportunity for new faculty to learn about one another's research interests and to network and share information with other new faculty.

Workshop for Principal Investigators.

A second event is being planned for PIs and their staff. The purpose of this session is to review new procedures, forms, and policies impacting sponsored projects and PIs at UH. Copies of new forms and policies will be distributed and reviewed, and assistance in complying with new procedures will be provided. This workshop will be an excellent opportunity for PIs and their staff to ask any and all questions they might have about grant administration. The date for this workshop is pending.
