Budget Development Workshop

Ever wonder how 9-month faculty members can be paid by a grant? What fringe benefit rates to use for employees on your contract or grant proposal? Or how indirect cost rates affect your overall proposal budget?

If yes, then this workshop is for you! SSRI will be offering a workshop on "How to Develop a Basic Budget and Justification." This 1-1/2 hour workshop will provide an overview of constructing a proposal budget (e.g., personnel, equipment, materials and supplies, travel, etc.) and what to write for the budget justification. If time permits, the proposal submission process, from A to Z, will also be covered in the workshop. Written materials and information on how to access up-to-date information will also be distributed.

This workshop will be beneficial to Principal Investigators and their administrative staff, and department staff and graduate assistants who provide assistance to faculty members in preparing proposals or administering extramural awards.

When: Thursday, May 3, 2007, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Where: SSRI Conference Room (Saunders 704F)

Since space is limited, please register before April 27, 2007. For more information, or to register for the workshop, please send an email to ssridir@hawaii.edu.

RCUH Training Video Available On-line

The Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) has developed several training videos for use by Principal Investigators and their project staff. The videos serve as tutorials on the RCUH on-line procurement system. The videos range in time from three to eight minutes and provide step-by-step instructions on how to create purchase orders, payment documents, travel requests, and travel completion reports. Several other videos are currently under development. To see a list of available training videos and the videos themselves, go to the RCUH website or click here.

We hope that you will find the videos to be a useful training tool for new employees or as a refresher course for current employees.
